The Entrepreneurial Journey of Wendi Freeman – Founder of Be Bright Events
Ever since I was a pre-teen I have been planning. Planning parties, planning dinners, planning youth-group events and conferences, and planning fundraisers. This expanded into my young adult life in planning engagement parties, weddings, wedding showers, and baby showers. Naturally, my love of planning directed me to choose a career in corporate event planning.
After 15 years in the corporate world, I decided to launch my own events company! Be Bright Events is an event planning and consulting company whose primary mission is to connect people and create impactful experiences through live events that generates and expands new business. In the business world, live events go beyond corporate conferences and tradeshows. Live events can also be in the form of workshops, seminars, retreats, masterminds, product and book launches, and social networking events.
Traditional forms of marketing are a necessity for any business, but hosting an event enables professionals, thought-leaders, authors, coaches, and organizations to educate their audience about their industry and services. Live events not only builds rapport and a sense of community, but also creates the environment for attendees to feel confident and educated about their purchasing decisions, increases customer retention and satisfaction, and, let’s face it- people place a higher value and tend to remember experiences more than things.
Year over year, event planning is reported as one of the top 5 most stressful jobs, but I find that this is where I thrive. My days are never the same and it’s refreshing to avoid the day-to-day monotony of a traditional job. Each event brings on new opportunities to be creative, build and expand relationships and overcome challenges. In addition, I get to leverage my organizational, communication, adaptability, and negotiation skills daily. As a results-driven professional, prioritizing an organization’s goals and event’s needs, developing a strategic plan, and then executing on the details with a systematic approach is extremely satisfying. As a people person, knowing that I am impacting both the organization and their attendees by providing a memorable experience motivates me.
Not only does event planning fulfill my professional needs and desires, but it also satisfies my social nature and travel bug. I can’t imagine a more perfect profession for myself!
Was there a defining moment where you knew you wanted to take the leap and start Be Bright Events?
My defining moment was at the “Abundance” event hosted by an organization called “Life on Fire“. This event targeted individuals who are, or want to become, a leader and want to adopt a truly abundant mindset and eliminate their scarcity mentality. I have attended numerous “growth” focused events, but this was unlike any of them. The willingness of all participants and leaders to play “full-in”, be completely vulnerable and the sense of community and support of one another allowed me to have multiple breakthroughs throughout the 4 days. I realized that I do not have to be limited by my beliefs. I was able to identify what was holding me back and I broke through the limiting beliefs that were not serving me. Once I released those negative beliefs and shifted my mindset, I was able to discover and clarify my vision to launch Be Bright Events. I will be forever grateful for this event and the skills and techniques I gained that are enabling me to live my “Life on Fire”
every single day!
I had such an incredible experience and success since this event, that I have been invited back as a leader. The next Abundance event is September 19-22, 2019 in San Diego. I want all of you to experience the same transformation as I did. That is why I am extending an invitation for you to attend for FREE.

Which entrepreneurs have you looked up to during your own jounrey?
I have always looked up to Richard Branson and Sara Blakely. Both of them are amazing leaders with incredibly positive mindsets and are a huge source of inspiration for me. I admire the way they think outside of the box, their commitment to family and employees, their down-to-earth attitudes, the hustle work mentality, and their generosity and commitment to philanthropy. Their acceptance of mistakes and the way they view failure as an opportunity has enabled me to reframe the way I view mistakes as well. There is no failure, only progress.
When you’re not working on your business, what do you like to do?
Travel. Exercise. Hike. SUP. Beach. Read. Hammock. Anything on or near the water. (I was a mermaid in a previous life). 🧜
What is one of the biggest lessons you’ve learned while traveling?
Independence and Gratitude.
Tell us about one travel story that has always stuck out to you?
LEECH SOCKS! If you do not know what they are, google them.
Last year I was fortunate enough to travel to Sri Lanka with a group of 18 amazing women (and 1 brave man) through a Livalit Travel adventure. Our third day was spent trekking through the Knuckles Mountain Range, in Kandy. Knuckles Range is known for its stunning scenery, luscious green hills, cows, rice fields and leeches!
Leeches are not dangerous and can be as tiny as a fingernail– but once these bloodsuckers attach themselves to you, they can expand (with your blood) up to 18 inches. Despite being prepared with our fashionable leech socks, we still performed “leech checks” throughout our hike.
We would stop hiking, inspect our legs for leeches and, if lucky enough, would jump up and down shouting “I got one, I got one”, to which one of our guides would come to the rescue with their homemade “leech spray” as they laughed at us (in good fun) and removed the little bloodsucker. The sheer sight of a group of independent American women decked out in head to toe hiking gear, complete with leech socks, was nothing by comical, but then add the creative, interpretive “I got one” dance to the mix and we were laughing for days.
I made so many incredible memories on my trip to Sri Lanka, but the leech sock experience is one for the books!
