APRIL 8-15, 2019

Just like Crisafulli’s Cheese Shop this tour combines food with fun!  What better food to explore than cheese and chocolate?  With a side of beer and wine, of course.  On this tour, we will begin in Holland where we will dive head first into their cheese culture with cheese and wine pairings, a trip to the Alkmaar cheese market (est. in 1365), and a cheese farm visit in the city of Gouda.  Then, things will get a little sweeter as we travel to Belgium to fulfill every chocoholics dream!  We’ll learn about and, more importantly, taste their mouthwatering chocolate before becoming Chocolatier’s ourselves.  We’ll have the incredible opportunity to make our own chocolates during a private workshop at Belgium’s oldest chocolate company, Neuhaus.  Come hungry for an unforgettable experience with your local cheese experts at Crisafulli’s Cheese Shop!

Day 2: AMSTERDAM

After breakfast, we’ll take a guided tour through one of the trendiest parts of Amsterdam filled with restaurants, bars, and exotic shops.  Our local guide will be sure to show us all the special places of this typical Dutch neighborhood including a stop at a bar within the Albert Cuyp market, one of the largest markets in Amsterdam.  Then, we’ll cap off our tour with the Heineken experience.  Here, we’ll walk through malt silos, peek inside the mash coppers, and stand in the lager cellars where young beer was once matured.  We’ll complete the experience by enjoying a few beers together.  You’ll have the rest of the afternoon to explore Amsterdam before meeting for a group dinner where we’ll enjoy a 3 course Dutch meal.

Day 3: AMSTERDAM

In the morning, we’ll take a short drive to the windmill village of the Zaanse Schans.  This is a typical living and working area on the River Zaan with wooden houses and windmills dating from the 17th and 18th century.  This area vividly depicts Dutch life during that time with authentic houses, a historic shipyard, clog making demonstrations, and, of course, plenty of windmills.  On our way back to Amsterdam we will visit the medieval town of Edam.

After this visit, we will proceed to one of the world’s largest flower exhibitions, the “Keukenhof”, where an incredible number of bulbs are displayed with perfect artistry all over the park.

Day 5: HAARLEM – ALKMAAR CHEESE MARKET – HAARLEM

Today, we will begin in the Dutch city of cheese, Alkmaar.  We will have a local guide take us through the Alkmaar cheese market which has been taking place since 1365. Just watch out for the Cheese Porters who wear straw hats with colored ribbons, as they will be running through the market carrying wheels of cheese to and from a 14th Century weigh house on wooden barrows suspended from their shoulders!  Next, we’ll enjoy a city tour of Haarlem, the capital of the province of North Holland, by foot.  It will begin at the ‘Grote Markt’ (the town center) which is home to the St. Bavo church, the town hall, and the former meat market.  It is an interesting, historic town on the river Spaarne because it has clung to its antique character more than any other town in this province.

Day 6: HAARLEM – GOUDA – BRUSSELS

This original and extremely delicious walking tour looks at the authentic Brussels like no other does. We’ll also walk through the historic old town before attending a private chocolate workshop at Belgium’s oldest chocolate company, Neuhaus.  We’ll have a tasting of their chocolates and make our own to take back home or, if we’re being realistic, eat later that day!
